Free takeoff software
Free takeoff software for construction plans
Measure plan PDFs in the browser — linear footage, area, and counts — without buying a seat. Aimed at heavy civil and underground utility takeoffs, with a Mac app option when you want desktop markup.
What the free web takeoff does
- Calibrate scale on plan PDFs
- Measure LF, area, and counts
- OCR / text search on sheets
- Symbol match and pipe tracing helpers
When to use web vs Mac
Browser takeoff — quick measures, no install, good for checking quantities or a first pass. Start at /takeoff.html.
Construction Takeoff (macOS) — fuller PDF markup and measure for estimators who live in plans all day. Available on the Mac App Store.
After takeoff
Move quantities into mud1 for estimating and proposals, use calculators for trench/pipe math, or export bid items with slash commands like /bid2win and /csv when a project is open.
Is it really free?
The web takeoff on openmud.ai is free to use. openmud is open source. The Mac app is a separate App Store product from the same builder if you need a dedicated desktop tool.
